If you're concerned about the high level of environmental toxins your body needs to filter and process each day, you're not alone. Even 100 years ago, our ancestors were breathing, eating, and drinking far fewer chemicals than what we deal with today. The following tips will help you protect your body from the downsides of modernization: Filter your water; you can easily and cost-effectively invest in a water purifier for your fridge. Carry water in aluminum, glass, or stainless steel, avoiding plastic in general (due to the risk of chemical leaching). You’ll protect yourself from chemicals such as BPA, which is a known carcinogen. Refuse to drink beverages packed with artificial flavors and sweeteners.

Filter the air you breathe. Just changing your air filters or upgrading to a better filter can reduce the air contaminants significantly. Keep a box of face masks handy for situations when you must be exposed to toxins, such as painting a room or automobile work

Reduce use of chemicals in general. Refuse to let smokers smoke inside, and change your buying habits such that you no longer use commercial candles, cleaning products, or candles made with chemicals. Season food with natural herbs and spices, avoiding spice mixes packed with preservatives and artificial additives.
Hire a green consultant to evaluate your home. You may wish to take out carpet (chemicals!) and replace it with natural clay tile floors, or make other such changes.
